Biography

I was born in Strathdon, Aberdeenshire where my childhood interest in the countryside evolved into a passion for landscape art.

On graduation from RGU Grays School of Art Aberdeen, I entered the teaching profession and currently I am Principal Teacher of Art and Design at Forres Academy.

I appreciate art from all cultures; in particular the 18th century Japanese Woodblock printmakers, the Glasgow Boys and the French Impressionists, all of whom have been a major influence on my creative development. Although I have a preference for Landscape and Still Life my work encompasses all genres, working with a variety of media, mainly acrylics, oils, pastels and pen and ink.

Recently, I have been using expressive colour to evoke the character and charm found in traditional Scottish fishing villages. I am fortunate to live and work in Moray, as it affords easy access to some of Scotland’s most beautiful scenery. In an ever-changing world, the tranquil havens of the Moray Firth and the North East coastline are a constant source for my landscape compositions.

Everything from dramatic lighting, colours and shapes of cottages, patterns and textures of shingle on the shore to the peaceful calm of a gentle sea breeze provide inspiration and artistic focus.
